BAGA, FIGURES, Guinea
The female form, so important in Baga art, manifests itself in various carvings including this large figure with bowl and these small figures. The beautiful woman supporting her breasts is a representation of a young initiated woman. Figures like these were placed in shrines. Ours show no evidence of age or use and were probably made for the art market.
