BAMILEKE, FIGURES, Cameroon
These royal ancestor figures were not worshipped but were honored and cared for. They were displayed for prestige during ceremonies. All are expressive like the Bamileke masks and numbers 3 and 4 are further embellished with beads.
Most of our Bamileke figures show no evidence of age or use and were probably made to be sold.
