This Baule pounder has been vetted as being authentic.
There are noticeable cracks and chips which are now stable.
The Baule and other peoples wear robes known as "boubous". To keep the fabric looking lusterous wax is impregnated into the fibers using these pounders. Working in unison, two workers rhythmically pound the day away.
