This mask has been vetted as authentic with signs of significant age and use. There is obvious wear/erosion on the beak.
This type of woven raffia mask was worn pulled over the head by young, male initiates of the Binji people, DRC. The bird-like character to the face on this mask is enhanced by a stitched-on double beak. The attached eyes are also of fiber.A fragile and delicate type due to the nature of its construction.
