DOGON, MASK 66, 24.25", SOLD, Mali
The Dogon carve over eighty kinds of mask some of which, especially the Satimbe, Katanga and Sirige, are considered to have potent magical powers. Others, representing hunters or animals, are used in dances of a more celebratory or social nature. This mask , which has a tall shape similar to a Sirige mask is much too small to have actually been worn.
