FANG, BIERI RELIQUARY HEAD/ BUNDLE 7, 15", $450 Gabon, SOLD
These heads, called Bieri like the figures used the same way, were guardians of the enshrined relics of important ancestors. Sitting on top of the containers, they were also consulted for aid and protection. The heads may represent an earlier form that later came to include full figures. Some have metal around the eyes.
