NDEBELE, JOCOLO APRON 11
So. Africa
22.5" high x 20.5" wide
$1000

This piece is authentic, on canvas, but has signs of use and loss of a few beads (see detail).

This beaded garment, made by and worn by women, was for ceremonial occasions. It defined one's status, progressing from girlhood to womanhood. The Jocolo, with it's five fingers, was reserved for married women.
