FANG HEAD 101

FANG
Head
13.5" h
$1500

Heads like these, called Bieri like the figures used the same way, were guardians of the enshrined relics of important ancestors. Sitting on top of the containers, they were also consulted for aid and protection. The heads may represent an earlier form that later came to include full figures. Some have metal around the eyes.

Despite its appearance this head show no evidence of age or use and was probably made to be sold.
