Deble, carved figures whose legs merged into solid cylindrical bases were designed to be used as percussion instruments. Held by their arms, the heavy figures were pounded against the ground to provide a rythmic beat for Senufo dancers.
These Senufo figures show no evidence of age or use and were probably made to be sold.
