Deble, carved figures whose legs merged into solid cylindrical bases were designed to be used as percussion instruments. Held by their arms, the heavy figures were pounded against the ground to provide a rythmic beat for Senufo dancers.

This graceful, somewhat stylized figure shows no indication of tribal use.
