YORUBA, BEADED CROWNS 3, Nigeria
Traditionally, Yoruba crowns were worn by the king, or Oba, in public ceremonies. They were embellished with symbolic designs. Beads were signs of wealth and status. Number 30 is particularly elaborate and comes with a custom-made stand. Numbers 31 and 32 show signs of age and use.
