In spite of its appearance, we do not believe this figure shows any signs of age or tribal use. We also believe the face may have been recarved.

Shrine figures represent gods who provide protection, healing and good fortune in return for respect, sacrificial food and adherence to their rules. Their hands are extended to receive gifts, and open to indicate generosity and honesty.
