This Mossi figure has been vetted as being authentic with signs of use and age.
Despite its appearance the Mossi figure below shows no evidence of age or use and was probably made to be sold.

Figures like these could have been used by either a chief or a commoner. For a chief it would have been a symbol of office or a memorial after death. The scarification patterns and body adornment were indications of rank.
