YORUBA,
BEADED FIGURES 23
19" high x 8.5" wide x 11" deep,
$500
SOLD

Beads were signs of wealth and status. Many Yoruba sacred and secular objects were embellished with elaborate images and symbolic designs created by small glass beads.

Despite its appearance, this Yoruba beaded work shows no evidence of age or use and was probably made to be sold. With a rider and four attendants, it includes a few small gourds. The hollow inside is lined, similar to number 22.
