The leather strings and the leather and cloth attachments are loose and can be adjusted or removed. There is no evidence to suggest they are original to the piece. The iron rod is fixed into the wood. As the photos show there is wood loss on both sides of the head and the nose of the bearded face. There are large cracks (now stable) on one side.
