Most Luba art relates to kings and important chiefs, who defined their power by the display of prestige objects during important ceremonies.

Despite its traditional form and appearance, this box exhibits few signs of use or age and was probably made to be sold.

There is a crack coming down the left front side in the pictures and the middle wooden loop (see side view) is broken
