TUAREG, EHEL POST 11, Niger

TUAREG, EHEL POST 11, 48.5", SOLD, Niger

Wood was carved into posts of many inventive forms, all intricately covered with geometric designs. Four Ehel posts were erected in each Tuareg family's tent to hold the long Eseber mat, which encircled the parent's bed.

Although the wood is extremely hard, Ehel posts are thin, intricate and fragile. Most, but not all, have carved designs on both sides. Most of ours have some breakage, which is highlighted in the details.
