YORUBA BEADED CROWN 34, NIGERIA
Photographs © Tim Hamill
20 " high (crown) 34.5 " high (with veil) x 13" wide
Despite the quality of workmanship and the interesting and complex form, we believe that this crown was made to be sold. The color is more accurate in the photos with a black background. The first four are too warm in color.
The inside is lined with part of a Yoruba dark red ashoke textile. There is a repair on the elaborate veil, in the red and yellow area. Some of the white beads are dirty (especially in the figures) and not easily apparent in the photographs.
The bird on the top of the crown has an extension that inserts into a hole on the top of the crown. It is removable. The crown was photographed on a simple, sectional black base as shown in the installation picture. It can be purchased for $25.
