NUPE
Support 15
23" high
$1200

*Nupe pot support 15 was selected by the Fitchburg Museum and was donated to their permanent collection.

This Nupe pot support has been vetted as authentic, with signs of age and use.

These tall, elegant flaring forms are supports, buried halfway in the ground to provide a stable base for a stack of the rounder Nupe pots. Whole walls of terracotta pots often lined the inside of Nupe houses. Most of these pieces show evidence of being buried, sometimes with deterioration or encrustation, most often with the exposed top portion darkened with smoke from cooking and fires kept in the home.
